Te Papa’s Board is responsible for the Museum’s overall performance. The Chief Executive Officer and Kaihautū (Māori leader) jointly lead the Museum, supported by five directors. Meet the Board and senior management team, and view our organisation structure.

Board members

Te Papa’s Board is accountable to the Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage. The Minister appoints the Board, which currently has eight members.

The partnership between the Chief Executive Officer and Kaihautū (Māori leader) reflects the bicultural nature of the Museum. Te Papa ‘acknowledges the unique position of Māori in Aotearoa New Zealand and the need to secure their participation in the governance, management, and operation’ of the Museum.
