Sue Piper was appointed to Te Papa's board on 1 August 2008 for a three-year term.
Sue Piper is Executive Director of the Wellington Community Foundation and a member of the Board of Quotable Value New Zealand. Sue Piper was a member of the Wellington City Council from 1995 to 2004 and has been a member of the National Local Council of Local Government New Zealand. Between 1989 and 1992, Sue was President of the Public Service Association.
