Te Papa is easy to get to however you’re travelling. You’ll find us right in the heart of the city, in Cable Street on Wellington’s waterfront.

By foot
Te Papa is within easy walking distance of the city’s railway station, major hotels, and central business district. We’re easy to find – just head for the waterfront.
By bus
Most Wellington buses, including those from the airport and railway station, travel along Courtenay Place, which is just a hop, skip, and a jump from Te Papa. Ask your driver for directions.
Tour buses drop off and pick up passengers at the Cable Street entrance. Parking for tour buses is free.

By car
When travelling south into the city, take the Aotea Quay exit from the Wellington motorway. Continue along Waterloo, Customhouse, and Jervois Quays, which lead directly into Cable Street. Once here, you’ll find very convenient parking.

Follow the directions for cars above. The closest campervan and caravan site is Kumutoto & Wellington Waterfront Motorhome Park. You’ll find this next to the waterfront entrance, opposite Whitmore Street and the New Zealand Post building, Waterloo Quay.

From the airport
You can catch a taxi or bus from the airport. If you’re driving:
turn left along Cobham Drive
turn right at the Evans Bay Parade lights and drive around the harbour and along Oriental Parade
turn right into Wakefield Street, right into Taranaki Street, and right into Cable Street.
From the railway station
From the railway station, take a bus or taxi to Te Papa – or walk along the waterfront in just 20 minutes.
