When you park at Te Papa, you’re helping to fund the Museum’s programme of research, conservation, exhibitions, and education. Open or covered parking spaces are available 7 days a week. The car park also includes spaces for visitors with disabilities and for tour buses.
Please ask about our parking discounts for groups using our conference facilities.
Take a parking ticket at the barrier arm to enter.
Parking fees
Charges apply 24 hours a day. If you are attending a function or conference at Te Papa, you can receive a discounted parking rate by prior arrangement. Please ask your event organiser or manager to enquire with their Te Papa Function Coordinator at least 1 week before the function.
How to pay
Take your ticket with you after you park. You can pay before returning to your car:
At an Auto Pay Station
There are two parking pay stations – one outside and one just inside the entrance to the underneath car park.
- By credit card (Amex, MasterCard, or Visa)
- By cash (change provided)
(There is an automatic teller machine [ATM] in the main entrance of the Museum, available during opening hours.)
Or pay at the exit
- By credit card only (Amex, MasterCard, or Visa)
Fast Pay – quick and hassle free
Instead of taking a ticket, simply insert your credit card or debit credit card at the car park entrance column when you arrive.
On leaving, insert the same card at the exit. You don’t need to go to an Auto Pay Station. A receipt will print automatically when you leave.
