Book a Tyrannosaurs experience for your class!
A Te Papa educator will meet your group for a 15 minute introduction to the tyrannosaur family. Your students will then be given a mission to discover the distinguishing features of these prehistoric predators. In groups of 4 or 5, students will enter the exhibition, explore the interactive displays, and hunt for the answers!
Prior to your visit you will receive a teachers' kit with activities and resources (including an exhibition floor map) to use before, during, and after your Tyrannosaurs experience.
Suitable for: Primary Year 1 - 8 and Secondary Year 9 - 10
Cost: $6.50 per student
Duration: Allow 60 minutes per class
In this educator led programme, young children, aged 2 to 5 years, will become budding palaeontologists through hands-on, guided play that mirrors the work that these scientists really do!
We will start by excavating in our Fossil Dig in Bush City, using palaeontology tools, and then explore palaeontology methods through activities such as sorting and using magnifying glasses. We will find out together what dinosaurs are (and are not), and how we determine more about the life of these extinct creatures.
Following these activities we will head up to the Tyrannosaurs: Meet the family exhibition on Level 4, to learn more about this specific family of dinosaurs through the discoveries of fellow fossil hunters. We expect to spend around 30 minutes together in this space.
At the end of our hour together, your group is welcome to remain in the exhibition to explore further with your centre’s teachers and parent helpers. We recommend that you allow time in your schedule for this.
