Here are a few steps to get a video conference going:
- Check that you can access a video conferencing facility, either at your school or a nearby school.
- Choose the programme you would like to follow from the list.
- Book your programme by contacting the Education Coordinator.

Matariki - Discover Tāonga Pūoro
The rising of the Matariki constellation in our eastern skies heralds the coming of the Māori New Year. Learn how to find these stars for yourself in the night sky. This year, our theme is tāonga pūoro (traditional Māori instruments).
Our educators will teach you about various tāonga pūoro and their significance to the New Year in Aotearoa.
See and hear the sounds of many different types of tāonga pūoro including kōauau, nguru, pūtōrino, and porotiti.
Presented by Te Papa Educators and Conservator Shane Pasene.
Available in te reo Mäori for Kura Kaupapa and Wharekura.

The Treaty of Waitangi
Anei te tāmore o te mōhiotanga, nā te tangata i waihanga,
nā ngā iwi e rua i whakaae.
Here is the taproot of our understanding, made by man, agreed to by the two peoples of our land.
This is a great opportunity to meet New Zealand historian Dame Claudia Orange, and with her explore the Treaty, its history, and its rich significance to our society today.
The video conference will explore themes based around Level Four of the NZ Social Studies curriculum.

The Colossal Squid
- This squishy, squidgy presentation by Te Papa educators is a fun and exciting way to learn about our resident deep-sea creature, the colossal squid!
In this video conference your students will:
Find out how this half-tonne specimen came to be at Te Papa.
Explore the body of a squid by watching a live dissection.
See an animation about the day in the life of a colossal squid.

A Day in Pompeii
Immerse your students in the ancient world of Pompeii, the Roman city that was frozen in time by the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 A.D. Explore Pompeii in depth with two subject experts:
Dr Matthew Trundle, Victoria University: Associate Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences (Classics)
Dr Hamish Campbell, GNS Science: Geologist / Paleontologist
Pompeii and the eruption
What was Pompeii like before the eruption? Identify what Pompeian’s thought of the eruption while it was happening and listen to some personal accounts written by people who saw the eruption from afar.
The rediscovery of Pompeii
Hamish and Matthew will explain how Pompeii was rediscovered in 1748. Students will discover how treasures from Pompeii are
preserved and investigate what these treasures are able to tell us about life in Pompeii in 79AD.
