Edwina Ehrman lecture on Unveiled - 9 August 2011

The behind-the-scenes lecture on the forthcoming exhibition Unveiled: 200 years of Wedding Dress from the Victoria and Albert Museum, London presented by Edwina Ehrman, Curator Textiles and Fashion was a sell-out event.  Edwina was a great story teller and an interest in ‘weddings’ was not a prerequisite for enjoying her lecture.  The social history behind the fashions through different periods was fascinating.

There was much enthusiastic comment, excitement and buzz after the lecture and many took the opportunity to purchase her accompanying book The Wedding Dress: 300 year of Bridal Fashions now on sale at Te Papa Store.

For those that missed this most interesting lecture the good news is the lecture was filmed and will shortly be available to view as a Podcast on the Te Papa Website.  Other information on the forthcoming exhibition on the website includes the blogs from Claire Regnault, Curator History.  They are worth a look!

Friends of Te Papa Government House Reception -

3 July 2011

Our principal fundraiser event for the year at Government House on 3 July was a fitting culmination of our lecture programme on the Government House Conservation Project.  Thanks to the kind hospitality of Their Excellencies attendees were able to enjoy the pleasures of a special occasion in the refurbished ballroom and to inspect the remarkable renovation, restoration and design efforts undertaken in other public areas of the building.

Thank you to everyone who gave their support – either by attending the Reception, buying raffle tickets or sending a donation.  Your generosity and support enabled us to raise an excellent contribution to the purchase of the three Joanna Paul works.

It was very gratifying to have the Chairman of Te Papa's Board, Sir Wira Gardiner, acknowledge in his speech the value he and his colleagues attach to the support and partnership received from the Friends.

Congratulations to our raffle winners!
