National Services Te Paerangi, in partnership with Museums Aotearoa and New Zealand Historic Places Trust, is pleased to support this opportunity for museums, art galleries, and heritage and iwi organisations to engage with Kate Clark.

This workshop aims to help participants think about the different ways in which cultural heritage matters, and how to use that in their own work.

Kate will look at ideas of significance, including community and expert values, and how that helps inform decisions about sites and collections.  She will also explore the wider issue of public value, and how heritage can connect to bigger economic, social and environmental agendas.

This interactive workshop also involves a series of activities based on the work of key thinkers in heritage and in management.

Who will I meet?

Kate Clark is an industrial archaeologist who has worked in museums and heritage organisations in the UK and Australia, including SydneyLivingMuseums, the Ironbridge Gorge Museums Trust, English Heritage and the Heritage Lottery Fund. She has a particular interest in the value of culture and heritage and organised a major conference on ways of capturing the public value of heritage the UK. She was involved in rebranding the Historic Houses Trust as Sydney Living Museums as a way of bringing together traditional heritage audiences and current trends around homes, revival and authenticity in a digital world. She writes about museums, heritage, sustainability and values.

Who is it for?

This is a free seminar which will be of interest to anyone who is involved with looking after heritage – museum collections, places, buildings, or intangible heritage such as memory and tradition.
