ANZAC day events at Te Papa - Friday 25 April

Te Papa commemorates ANZAC Day this Friday with a one man play and an author presentation about the commissioned artists of World War II.

At 11am, Michael Burton performs in Gunner Inglorious, a remarkable solo performance bringing a soldier’s life from page to the stage in Soundings Theatre on Level 2.  Based on Jim Henderson’s classic World War II novel, Gunner Inglorious is being performed for free as a tribute to those who fought for New Zealand and as a prayer for the abolition of warfare.

Author Jenny Haworth takes the Soundings Theatre stage at 1pm to deliver a free presentation on her recent book The Art of War: New Zealand’s War Artists in the Field 1939-45The Art of War brings to life the stories and artworks of New Zealand’s commissioned war artists. It is the first study to explore the relationship between the commissioned artists of World War II, the action they recorded, and the way in which they dealt with the demands of the position. Jenny will sign books after the presentation.

Also, kids can create their own felt ANZAC poppy in Inspiration Station on Level 4 at 11am (cost $2) and discover fabulous facts about weta in NatureSpace on Level 2 at 2pm (free entry).
