Research on Marine Molluscs
Bruce Marshall is currently working on the systematics and biogeography of a number of groups of marine molluscs, including bivalves of the families Nuculidae, Mytilidae, Limidae, Pectinidae, Propeamussiidae, Pholadomyidae, and Parilimyidae; gastropods of the families Scissurellidae, Trochidae, Muricidae, and Olividae; and new monoplacophorans. Bruce is interested in New Zealand Mollusca in general, with special interest in deep-sea fauna associated with submarine volcanoes and methane seeps, sunken plant remains, decaying bones, and other unusual habitats, as well as southwest Pacific biogeography.
Using Te Papa’s collections and research, we are addressing conservation priorities for New Zealand’s landscape invertebrate biodiversity.
