On 12 May 2008, a destructive earthquake wiped out thousands of lives and devastated whole cities in China’s Sichuan Province.
The Sichuan Conservatory of Music Mianyang Arts College in Mianyang City suffered serious damage to lecture rooms, theatres, music studios, and office buildings. Power and water are still cut off, and all activities in the school have been cancelled. Thousands of students have had to abandon their studies and their music school has become a place of silence and emptiness.
‘Help us to return music to the music school!’ is the call of every musician who has ever been associated with the college.
This concert to raise funds for the rebuilding of the Mianyang Arts College features outstanding musicians from Wellington, Christchurch, and China.
All donors will be acknowledged in the programme and in Wellington’s local Chinese newspaper. Donations will be passed to the Sichuan Conservatory of Music Mianyang Arts College via the Chinese Embassy.
