Celebrate Nuku-tutaha Niue

Come and celebrate Nuku-tutaha (the island that stands alone) Niue! Everyone is welcome at this day-long festival of music, dance, arts and crafts, and workshops. 

10am–4pm: Niue Arts and Crafts village
See craft artists trained in traditional methods of weaving and other crafts demonstrating their skills. Best of all, their work will be for sale!
Signs of a Nation, Level 4.

11am–12 noon: Tau Fuata Niue 
Watch a vibrant traditional song and dance performance by this award-winning, world-touring group. Afterwards, learn some moves in a dance workshop!

12.45pm–1pm: Tau Toa mai Uelingitoni
This cultural performing group of enthusiastic school-age boys is preparing for the inaugural Cultural and Arts Festival in Niue next year.

1.15pm–2.15pm: Treasures of Niue presentation
Te Papa’s Senior Curator Pacific Cultures, Sean Mallon, and Conservation Technician Shane Pasene showcase Niue treasures from Te Papa’s collection. A small panel from the Niue community will also talk about the objects, drawing on their own knowledge and memories.

2.30pm–3pm: Tau Fuata Niue 
Come and experience a vibrant traditional song and dance performance by this world-touring, all-male group. Based in Auckland, the group was formed in 2000 to keep the Niue culture alive through song and dance, and to provide opportunities in the performing arts for young men of Niue (Tau Fuata Niue) in New Zealand. The group was awarded a Creative New Zealand Heritage Arts Award in 2006.
