Open and covered parking is available 7 days a week. The car park includes spaces for visitors with disabilities and for tour buses.
Parking costs
Parking costs $3.50 per hour up to a daily maximum of $12, or $6 for the evening if you arrive after 5pm. You can park for 15 minutes for free when you drop off passengers and then leave.
Please ask about our parking discounts for groups using Te Papa conference facilities. Parking is free for tour buses.
Overnight parking
You can arrange overnight parking by visiting the exit booth on arrival. You have to pay in advance and display the coupon at all times.
Parking for visitors with disabilities
We offer five disabled car parks: two on the left as you enter the car park, and three on the left as you continue into the covered area. Access to the building is at ground level through the main entrance.
Tour buses
Tour buses can drop off and pick up passengers at the Cable Street entrance and park for free. A Te Papa Host can direct you to an appropriate parking place.
Parking rules
- Pay as you leave at the exit booth – but prepay overnight parking.
- Credit card transactions cost an extra $0.50.
- If you lose your ticket, you pay the daily maximum fee of $12.
- If you break the parking rules, you may face a $40 fee to remove clamps from your car.
