We’re crazy about Dunnys!
Now that's a weird heading! Until you find out what Dunnys really are. In New Zealand, 'Dunny' is slang for toilet. In the world of art toys, Dunnys are THE hot new thing. They’re a massive range of designer toys, and collectors all over the world can’t get enough of them.
Why the funny Dunny name?
Apparently it’s a blend from street slang and one of the early prototypes called "Devil Bunny".
What makes a Dunny so special?
Dunnys are all the same basic shape, but each one’s a bit different, too. That’s because they’re designed by different artists from all over the world. Dunnys are a great way to collect art. They’re affordable. They’re a great talking point. And if you’re bored – you can play with them!
It’s Dunny season!
Two or three times a year, a flock of new Dunnys hits the market. Some series have a single theme. Cool themes over the years have been: Femme Fatale (all designed by female artists), UK (all designed by UK artists), Aztecas (…you get the idea).
Close your eyes and reach for the Dunny
Some Dunnys come in “blind boxes”, which are like lucky dips. You have no idea which one you’ll get. Some Dunnys are very rare, and some even have a golden prize ticket inside.
Design a Dunny competition
Inspiration Station recently held a Design a Dunny competition. Check out some of the winners! Thanks to our collector and Popup Gallery Wellington for their generous donation of prizes and to everyone who entered. There were some very cool designs!
