Discovery Centres

Discovery Centres are places specifically designed for children and families to visit, and are full of hands-on exhibits and games as well as magazines and books. Visitors are encouraged to explore, touch, play, ask questions, research and learn.

Staff are on hand to answer your questions. You can also find reference books and magazines associated with the specialist area of each centre.

  • Make it at Te Papa

Build it, decorate it, whip it up! Craft it, collage it, colour it, add fur, teeth, googly eyes and grass. Watch it fly and race and make it look good and show it off to all your friends!

  • Te Huka ā Tai

Te Huka ā Tai has a Māori focus, allowing tamariki (children) to try their hand at traditional activities. There’s also fabulous taonga on display, both old and new.

  • Inspiration Station

Come see our Big Baby, the ‘It’ Monster, and display of Delectable Collectables. Play shop in the Kiwi Corner Store, or create a Flash New You with a funky range of dress ups.

  • NatureSpace

At NatureSpace you step inside a dinosaur footprint, inspect an insect under a microscope, find a fossil, and much more. NatureSpace rocks!

  • PlaNet Pasifika

PlaNet Pasifika showcases the diversity of expression and creativity amongst the people of Pacific Island nations. Bang a drum, strum a ukulele, make a lei, or just read a book!
