Celebrate the Māori New Year at a fun-filled festival like no other!
More than 70,000 people visited Te Papa over the 18 days of our Matariki Festival 2009, and around 10,000 watched Matariki events online. Thank you all for your continuing support!
Te Papa’s 18-day Matariki 2009 programme was jam-packed with events for all the family. It included a mini film festival, stunning arts and crafts, and a stellar line-up of performers that got you dancing, laughing, and singing away the mid-winter chills.
Events schedule

How do you celebrate the Māori New Year? Grab a camera and show the nation!
During Matariki, Te Papa, in partnership with TelstraClear and New Zealand Post, is creating an interactive display of images from everyone, that captured the mood of this special time of year.
