Julia Deans is known primarily as frontwoman of Wellington band Fur Patrol. The possessor of one of modern rock’s most interesting voices, Deans is able to shift elegantly between soaring falsetto and assured growl.
At Te Papa she takes to the stage as she began – armed only with an acoustic guitar, vocal cords, and a cheeky grin. This stripped-back mode highlights the idiosyncratic beauty of her songwriting and gives her voice the room to really stretch itself.
Deans recently completed a sold-out nationwide tour of the country (in solo acoustic mode) with Sam Scott (Phoenix Foundation) and Barry Saunders.
