Robbie Duncan

Robbie Duncan is best known these days as the man who specialises in recording New Zealand’s top acoustic musicians at his Braeburn Recording Studio in Wellington. But he’s always been a guitarist, moving over the years from rock to folk to improvised instrumentals with the band Waiting for Donald. In 2005 he released a solo album of improvisations on baritone guitar. It is called The Sound of the Sound, something he thinks about constantly when recording. Currently he’s exploring the possibilities of looping his distinctive freestyle guitar – repeatedly playing a short recorded sequence –  to create improvised multi-layered solo pieces.
