Te Papa has several exhibitions that are available for touring. In this section, you will find a list of the latest ones with their itineraries, as well as our past touring exhibitions.

International touring exhibitions

  • Kura Pounamu & Brian Brake in China

    Two Te Papa exhibitions are now on show at the National Museum of China – Kura Pounamu: Treasured stone of Aotearoa New Zealand and Brian Brake: Lens on China and New Zealand
    为庆祝新西兰和中国两国建交四十周年,由新西兰国家博物馆与中国国家博物馆合作的《毛利碧玉:新西兰的传世珍宝》、《布莱恩·布瑞克:镜头里的中国和新西兰》两个展览将于2012年10月31日至2013年2月1日在中国国家博物馆展出。

  • Meridian Lines: Contemporary art from the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa

    Meridian Lines is part of a major exhibition of international art marking the reopening of the China Art Museum, Shanghai. It features works by seven leading contemporary New Zealand artists, drawn from Te Papa’s collection.

  • E Tū Ake: Standing Strong

    Ancestral Māori treasures from Aotearoa New Zealand stand alongside contemporary works to show the artistic depth and political aspirations of this vibrant indigenous culture. The exhibition opens at the Musée de la Civilisation in Québec, Canada, on 21 November 2012.

  • Whales | Tohorā

    Whales |Tohorā brings the world of whales to life. This highly interactive and theatrical exhibition presents the latest research from the international scientific community in accessible and innovative ways. The exhibition will open at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History on 19 October 2012.

National touring exhibitions

  • Brian Brake: Lens on the world

    Experience a lifetime's work from New Zealand's most renowned international photographer.

  • Dutch Etchers in a Golden Age

    Rembrandt – the undisputed master of etching – holds centre stage in this exhibition of etchings and engravings from the 'golden age' of Dutch art. Opens at Whangarei Art Museum on 4 August 2012

  • Géricault to Gauguin: Printmaking in France 1820–1900

    Some of the most renowned French artists of the 19th century are represented in this exhibition of etchings, drypoints, lithographs, and woodcuts from Te Papa’s collection. It opens at the Eastern Southland Art Gallery, Gore, on 13 October 2012.

  • Speed and Colour: British linocuts from the 1930s

    This selection of prints spans the years 1922 to 1936. All the artists in the exhibition were associated with the Grosvenor School of Art and attended classes taught by Claude Flight, who pioneered the lino cut technique. The show opens at Eastern Southland Art Gallery in November 2013.

  • Innocents Abroad - Touring the Pacific through a colonial lens

    This is an extraordinary and unique installation of 67 framed photographic prints and seven large photographic murals of images taken in 1884 by Alfred Burton. This exhibition opens at Voyager New Zealand Maritime Museum on 12 December 2013.

  • Kupe Sites

    Kupe Sites is an exhibition that documents the landmarks associated with Kupe’s voyage to Aotearoa through stunning black-and-white photographs and stories of these special places. This exhibition opens at Voyager New Zealand Maritime Museum on 5 December 2012.
