Come and take a close-up look at the mighty 7-litre McLaren M8A, winner of the 1968 Canadian-American Challenge Cup. This incredible car was the first of a series of McLaren cars which dominated the Can-Am race from 1967 to 1970.
From The Bruce McLaren Trust
‘Bruce McLaren, with fellow New Zealanders Denny Hulme and Chris Amon, took on the might of the international motor racing world and triumphed with enormous success. It was all about team work and there is no doubt that Bruce and his team did for New Zealand and New Zealand motorsport in the 1960s and 1970s what Sir Peter Blake and Team Black Magic have done for New Zealand yachting today.
That McLaren International continues to use Bruce’s name today for their Formula One team is a wonderful tribute and a superb acknowledgment of the company’s New Zealand beginnings.’
The Bruce McLaren Trust
The Bruce McLaren Trust was publicly launched in March 1997. It was set up to perpetuate the memory of Bruce McLaren, his team, and its drivers; and to support education, sporting, and business opportunities that enhance New Zealand’s reputation as a force in world motorsport and racing car design.
Trust members will be on hand for two weeks during Formula One – The Great Design Race to answer questions and talk about the projects the Trust supports – and to give a unique insight into the man behind it all.
