Te Papa’s all about family activities on the first Sunday of each month. Join us in celebrating Chinese New Year with a brilliant day of crafts and other activities. Numbers are limited so arrive early to avoid disappointment.

Xin Nian Kuai Le! Happy New Year!

11am–3pm

Make your own lucky Chinese dragon. Take it with you as you go dancing through the Museum.

11am–12 noon & 2pm–3pm

Which animal are you in the Chinese zodiac? Find out and make your own animal shadow puppet. Then you can go behind our back-lit screen and show off your puppetry skills. This activity is recommended for children aged 7 years and older.

12.30pm–1.30pm

Join Peter Yu to hear wonderful stories of Chinese legend. How did the animals get the years named after them? And how was the order decided? How did Chinese villagers scare away the monster Nian?
