Tour Throne of Emperors with China scholar Peter Harris and curator Justine Olsen to explore China’s long involvement with other lands and people.

Merchants, traders, bearers of gifts and tribute, adventurers, religious pilgrims, migrants, scholars, officials, and soldiers – all have travelled to and from China by land and by sea. They have interacted with the Chinese in many varied ways.

The most famous symbol of exchange was the Silk Road, a series of overland networks connecting East Asia with Europe. Southerly sea routes linked China with other parts of Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.
