Celebrate International Dance Day at Te Papa. Experience Wellington’s rich cultural diversity through dance performances – and learn a new dance yourself!

International Dance Day has been celebrated around the world since 1982. This year, more than 20 Wellington dance groups present a diverse mix of workshops and performances.

Chinese Lion Dancers & Wellington Community Choir

11am, Wellington Foyer, Level 2
Follow the Chinese Lion Dancers to Wellington Foyer, where Mayor Celia Wade-Brown will open the proceedings. Then hear the Wellington Community Choir singing music from different cultures.

Join one of eight workshops and learn a new dance.

Dance performance

Experience a dance performance that includes classical Indian, Highland, Indonesian, Israeli folk, kapa haka, Polish, Rwandan, Sasa, South American, and Integrated Dance.
