New Zealand Post Kaumātua Kapa Haka
Sat 4 & Sun 5 Jul 2015,
Soundings Theatre, Level 2
Performance; Family; Special
Join us to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Māori Contingent landing at Anzac Cove, Gallipoli. Our celebration of haka and waiata (traditional song and dance) is presented by senior performing artists from around New Zealand.
Kaumātua (elder) groups from around the country perform tribal waiata-a-ringa (action songs) and haka (war dances) from the First World War era. Included will be memorable classics such as ‘Te Ope Tuatahi’ by Sir Āpirana Ngata and ‘E Pari Rā’ by Paraire Tōmoana.
The most beautiful kapa haka event in the country, the New Zealand Post Kaumātua Kapa Haka festival is part of Te Papa’s events to celebrate Matariki, the Māori New Year.
