NYO event

To celebrate Waitangi Day, the National Youth Orchestra perform Lilburn’s Aotearoa Overture, Hindson’s Homage to Metallica, and Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade – with conductorBenjamin Northey and principal violinistVesa-Matti Leppänen.

The unabashed optimism of the early Lilburn work fits well with Homage to Metallica, by Australian composer Matthew Hindson. Homage pays tribute to the rhythmic vivacity and virtuosic extremes of heavy metal music. It also reminds us of an orchestra’s sheer power. Rimsky-Korsakov’s luscious Scheherazade, on the other hand, evokes the perfumed dreams of the Arabian Nights.

Presented by the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, with principal sponsors the Adam Foundation and Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts.
