Filipino Society

Watch dancers from the Filipino Society perform colourful traditional dances from the many regions of the Philippines. These delightful dances are inspired by many things: celebrations, harvesting, legends, birds, and work. The dancers might balance a lamp or a basket on the head, or skilfully use bamboo as poles or castanets in dances influenced by Spaniards, Muslims, and Americans.

The Philippines is rich in a traditional culture portrayed through music, arts, and dance. The Filipino Society was formed in 1986 to promote this culture in New Zealand, and has been holding cultural events for almost 20 years.
