Riding the Waves to a New Energy Future

In the first Science Express for 2012, ocean energy expert John Huckerby talked about New Zealand’s wave and tidal resources and the development of technologies and policy.

Dr Huckerby also spoke about his involvement with current wave energy projects, like the wave energy converter being developing by Wave Energy Technology New Zealand. A half-scale wave energy device is due to be installed off the south coast of Wellington in March 2012.

Dr John Huckerby

Dr Huckerby is the director of Power Projects Ltd, a Wellington-based energy industry consultancy specialising in renewable and marine energy, and the founder of the Aotearoa Wave and Tidal Energy Association.

Dr Huckerby was a lead author of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s Special Report on Renewable Energy Resources and Climate Change Mitigation. He has a PhD from Imperial College in London and an MBA from Henley Management College.
