To mark the closing of the exhibition Colours: Moments in fashion, the enchanting play The Box Woman is being presented at Te Papa Plaza.

This is a play with a universal theatrical language – it has been performed in Brazil, the United States, Japan, Finland, and South Africa. It is a play for open spaces, where the performers interact with the audience.

As the Box Woman performs, each person around her, one by one, puts their head inside the box and comes face to face with ‘the woman of a thousand years’. Two of the other characters, the Herald and the Conductor, guide the public. They play percussion instruments and tell the story of the Box Woman, as they dance, sing, and talk about the rainforest.

This colourful and exuberant performance is presented by the Embassy of Brazil.
