Justice Joe Williams and prominent lawyer Mai Chen discuss the landmark WAI 262 report. As chairperson of the Waitangi Tribunal, Williams had a key role in this report. Chen is an expert in public law.

Justice Joe Williams

Justice Joe Williams (Ngāti Pukenga, Te Arawa) is a judge of the High Court. He has been chief judge of the Māori Land Court, and deputy chairperson and chairperson of the Waitangi Tribunal. Justice Williams graduated from Victoria University of Wellington with an LLB and from the University of British Columbia with an LLM (Hons).

Mai Chen

Mai Chen is a founding partner of Chen Palmer New Zealand Public and Employment Law Specialists. She is also adjunct professor in commercial and public law at the University of Auckland Business School. Chen has published many articles and conference papers and contributed to seven books and major reports, mainly in the public law area.

The Treaty Debates are organised by Te Papa in partnership with the New Zealand Centre for Public Law at Victoria University of Wellington. They are hosted by Te Papa’s Dr Claudia Orange, a renowned Treaty of Waitangi scholar.
