Where to buy tickets

Your ticket will have a time on it. Entry times are as follows:

  • Friday–Wednesday: 10am, then every half hour until 5pm.
  • On Thursdays, entry times will be every half hour from 10am until 8pm. 

There is no time limit for viewing the exhibition. However, only single entry is permitted, i.e. no pass outs. We recommend at least 60 minutes to visit the exhibition.

Guided tours

Experience A Day in Pompeii with our knowledgeable guides. Guided tours available from 26 December.

Tour times

  • Saturdays at 10.30am and 2.30pm
  • Sundays at 10.30am and 2.30pm
  • Thursday evenings at 7pm.

Tour costs are additional to exhibition admission costs.

What you need to know before going on a tour

  • Tour tickets can only be purchased on the day of your exhibition visit. They are available from the Pompeii Ticketing Desk, Level 2.
  • Tours are 45 minutes duration.
  • Please leave your coats and bags at the Coat and Bag Check, Level 1, before proceeding to Level 2 to purchase your tickets.
  • If you decide you want to go on a tour once you are already in the exhibition, you can purchase a tour ticket from the Exhibition Desk in the Visa Platinum Gallery, Level 4.

Educator-led school programes are available. Bookings are essential. No self-guided visits to the exhibition will be available.

Warning

The body cast area contains body casts of some of the Pompeii victims. These are not human remains, but may still be upsetting. Te Papa recommends that children are accompanied by an adult.
