TimeWarp

The Time Warp, located on Level 2, uses hi-tech rides and interactives to offer an engaging and entertaining slant on time and life in New Zealand. It has three zones – past, present, and future.

Blastback jolts you millions of years back to witness the formation of New Zealand. Experience from both Māori and geological perspectives the amazing stories of how this country was created. Then hold on to your seats as you blast back to the present! As well as being exciting, Blastback is a great introduction to other exhibitions at Te Papa. Blastback takes 15 minutes, and up to 18 people can Blastback at a time.

Future Rush takes you on a ride to Wellington in fifty years’ time. Your virtual companion is Rima, the girl from the future. Activities include exploring Rima’s interactive house, trying some virtual snowboarding, and then zooming around Wellington in Rima’s futuristic car. Future Rush takes 18 minutes, and up to 12 people can Future Rush at a time.

The Present Zone features ‘virtual’ experiences of some classic Kiwi outdoor activities such as bungy jumping.

The Time Warp is located on Level 2 of Te Papa. It is open every day of the year, from 10am–6pm, and on Thursday until 9pm. Charges apply. Group bookings are available. For larger groups, The Time Warp experiences can be booked outside opening hours.
