Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee
Queen Victoria was widely loved among New Zealanders at the turn of the 20th century.
This image was used to mark her 1897 Diamond Jubilee (60 years of reign). The jubilee was enthusiastically celebrated here, with flags festooning the streets. At the time, 1 in 10 local children were named Victor or Victoria.
The image was reissued with a black border after the Queen's death in 1901.
