Plunket pram

Pram late 1940s, Maker unknown. Found in collection, 2009. Te Papa
'Keep the baby in the open air as much as possible … Nothing is more striking than the marked improvement in colour, tone, condition, and liveliness …'
Dr Truby King, Plunket founder, 1913

This hooded pram was designed for maximum air flow around baby, reflecting Plunket's advice for mums in the early 20th century. Its design was based on one by mother-of-eight Lady Victoria Plunket, the organisation's namesake, patron, and advocate.
