Health stamps for health camps

Poster, 'Make Health
Poster, 'Make Health "Catching"!' 1940, Kee, Douglas (1902–1982), E. V. Paul, Government Printer, Wellington. Purchased 2001. Te Papa

The children's health camps of the 1920s were a private initiative driven by New Zealand doctor Elizabeth Gunn (1879–1963).

The health camps were part-funded by sales of stamps, promoted through posters like this. Other promotional slogans included 'Children's health, the nation's wealth', 'Give them the stamp of health', and 'Buy health stamps for health camps'.

Since 1938, the camps have been government-run. They continue to champion children's health and welfare today.
