Edwina Ehrman talks to the Friends of Te Papa

Edwina Ehrman from London’s V&A offers behind-the-scenes insights into developing the stunning exhibition Unveiled: 200 years of wedding fashion from the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.

Edwina describes how she selected the dresses, suits, and accessories, and shares research highlights from the associated book. Edwina also details the process of dressing the mannequins and preparing them for their long journey from London to Wellington. The presentation includes images of many dresses and accessories that you can look forward to seeing in the Unveiled exhibition.

About Edwina Ehrman

Edwina Ehrman is a Curator of Textiles and Fashion at the V&A. She curated the exhibition, Unveiled: 200 years of wedding dress from the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, and authored the associated publication, The Wedding Dress: 300 Years of Bridal Fashions.

Edwina is a specialist in 19th-century textiles and fashion, with a particular interest in London. She was co-author of The London Look: fashion from street to catwalk (2004), and her many other publications include contributions to The Englishness of English Dress (2002), William Powell Frith: Painting the Victorian Age (2006), and Atkinson Grimshaw: Painter of Moonlight (2011).

Keira Miller talks about Unveiled

Join Keira Miller, exhibition preparator at the V&A, as she reveals the technicalities of organising the dresses for exhibition in Unveiled.

In part 1, Keira gives some background to the V&A and Unveiled and discusses costume mounting.

In part 2, Keira talks about mannequin choice and petticoats.

In part 3, Keira discusses wig creation and packing the dresses for travel.
