SCULPTURE
AS ARCHITECTURE
Moore described this work as 'a baroque sculpture for a Baroque church' when
the enlarged version was sited in a reflecting pool in front of the great
Baroque Karlskirche in Vienna.
The sculpture can be seen as an experiment with interlocking architectural forms, yet it began as a sculpture for landscape - a concept suggested in its title which combines 'hills' and 'arches'.
