He toi whakairo, he mana tangata.
Where there is artistic excellence, there is human dignity.

Toi Te Papa Art of the Nation is a major celebration of New Zealand’s rich and diverse artistic heritage. This long-term exhibition showcases more than 300 impressive artworks from Te Papa’s collections.

Iconic works from major artists like Heberley, Goldie, McCahon, Angus, Hotere, Albrecht, and Cotton sit alongside lesser-known treasures. Recurring themes and art movements are explored.

New: Works on paper changeover
The last changeover features works of architectural and ornamental subjects from the fifteenth to eighteenth centuries, as well as a selection of images after Raphael, Titian, and Parmigianino. more>

Read the introduction to the exhibition from Jonathan Mane-Wheoki, Director, Art and Collections Services (2004–2009).
