Enjoy an afternoon of wonderful documentary films about Monet and his contemporaries, courtesy of the Embassy of France. Films screened on Saturday 16 are in French with no subtitles

Art After Dark Toi o te Pō – Ballets Russes

Celebrate the centennial of the Ballets Russes (Russia's famous ballet company) at Te Papa's monthly arts evening, with a documentary, floortalk, and guest speaker.

Astronomy open day

Sunday 24, 10am–4pm. The Marae, Level 4. Free entry.

Enjoy a variety of free astronomical activities and displays, and fascinating astronomy lectures. Bring your own telescope and get expert advice! In association with the Wellington Astronomical Society and International Year of Astronomy 2009.

Harriet and the Matches

This duo's energetic style is a delightful mix of contemporary folk, reggae, and soul-inspired songs – accompanied by guitar, drums, and stomping feet!

Jhan Lindsay

Sunday 31, 1pm–2pm. The Marae, Level 4. Free entry.

Jhan is a singer-songwriter whose melodic, haunting music fuses many genres, including jazz, blues, and reggae.

 

Friends of Te Papa

Max Gimblett: West meets East in art

Wednesday 20, 6pm–7pm. Soundings Theatre, Level 2. 

Expatriate artist Max Gimblett talks about his work on display at the Guggenheim Museum, New York, in the exhibition The Third Mind: American Artists Contemplate Asia 1860–1989. He will also discuss sumi ink painting and his current work relating to Pacific Rim culture. 

Door sales: Friends of Te Papa and students (with ID) $5, public $10.

Sickert and the Camden Town Group

Sunday 24, 4.30pm–5.30pm. Soundings Theatre, Level 2. 

Art historian Sandra Pollard presents an illustrated lecture about the Camden Town Group – Edwardian painters who depicted an alternative view of society using a lively and often colourful style. Presented in association with Wellington DFAS.

Door sales: Friends of Te Papa and members of the National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies (NADFAS) $10, public $15.
