Lesson five: Migrating birds

Learning outcome

Students will describe why some creatures migrate such long distances and where they go.

Resources

World map, paper, glue.

Directions

  1. Class discussion. Focus questions: Why do some birds fly so far? What attributes allow these birds to fly such long distances? Do all species of migrating birds fly similar distances?
  2. Who flies where? Locate the places these birds fly on the globe.
  3. Do any other flying animals migrate? How far do they travel?
  4. Make a world map; plot out these routes, distances, and migration paths.
