Learning outcome
Students will investigate different modes of transport that can fly and what motivates us to use these flying machines.
Resources
Paper, pens, pencils.
Directions
- In groups have the students compile two lists, one focussing on what motivates us to fly (for example, pleasure, war, transport), and the other on what different modes of flying transport are available to us in the twenty-first century.
- Bring the class together to discuss ideas. Make links between surrounding environment, motivation, and modes of transport.
- Using the headings war, rescues, travel, and thrill seeking, ask the students to find as many examples of machines that are used for these tasks.
- Students will choose one example and create an advertisement or poster to sell this machine.
Modes of transport could include:
- aeroplanes
- gliders
- jets
- hang-gliders
- microlights
- rockets
- kite surfing
- ballooning.
Reasons for flying could include:
