Te Papa is following the advice of the New Zealand Government’s Covid-19 Protection Framework | Te Pou Tarāwaho Ārai Kowheori.
When visiting us, we need you to be fully vaccinated and show your My Vaccine Pass or My Covid Record unless you are under 12 years and 3 months old.
At the Orange | Karaka setting we are limited to what we can offer because of exhibition spacing and social distancing requirements. We have also removed all hands-on components in our programmes.
Some of our programmes can be delivered in full; with others we can offer an introduction.
We can offer you a full guided programme virtually with our Virtual Explorer live-feed programmes.

- Beauty Bounty Plunder
- Colonisation & Impact
- Introduction-only programmes: Arrivals, The Gallipoli Experience, Te Taiao Explorer, Unique New Zealand

Self-guided education visits
You are welcome to self-guide at the Orange | Karaka setting. However, due to the restrictions that we have put in place in line with government guidelines, we have some new processes that we ask you to follow during your visit.
The main health and safety points are in the document below. Please read the following document prior to your visit with us, which should provide answers to any questions you may have.
Please complete the registration form below prior to your arrival. This is for contact tracing purposes only.
We ask your students to remain inside the bubble of your designated class groups. Teachers are responsible for managing and monitoring this. Please ensure that everyone keeps a two-metre distance from other visitors in the museum at all times.
Our bag cages are unavailable for use at the Orange | Karaka level. Please leave all bags either at school, or on the bus. If you are unable to do this, please let us know – we may be able to arrange a bag cage for you to use. If one is available, we ask that you please manage the storage yourselves.
At the Orange | Karaka level school groups are welcome to eat in the ampitheatre and the Bush City kiosk.
Visitors over 12 are required to check in with the NZ COVID Tracer app where possible, and wear a mask or face covering during their time in the building.
There may be a wait to enter Te Papa. Our front of house team will help to monitor this situation.
