What does a portrait tell us about a person? And how do we manipulate images of ourselves to tell different stories?
Digital Identities enables students to explore themes of identity as they create their own artworks connected to Te Papa’s collections, while learning about copyright and creative commons.
Learners view, sample, remix, and make composited digital art combining art, photographs, and objects in the collections, with their own self-portrait photography.
We'll start by looking at portraits in the collection, from Rembrandt to Lisa Reihana via Rita Angus and consider the different ways these artists have explored identity through their art making.
Afterwards, students will use innovative technologies (including a green screen) to create a collage that places themselves within an artwork from Te Papa's collection.
