Choose from our range of education programmes. Each can be adapted to suit your needs.
Minimum notice: Two weeks, we recommend booking as far in advance as possible
Self-guided visits are welcome. Please:
- book your visit at least two weeks in advance by using our online booking form
- report to a friendly Te Papa Host, at our main entrance, when you arrive.
Primary and secondary programmes: $6.50 per student. Teachers and parent-helpers are free.
Early childhood programmes: $3 per student. Teachers and parent-helpers are free.
If you are bringing a group of 15 students or less, a minimum charge of $97.50 will apply. Prices include GST.
Self-guided visits are free of charge.
Note: Some short-term exhibitions may have a charge. Please discuss this with your Education Coordinator.
Education visits take place from 10am Monday – Friday during term time. Te Papa's public opening hours are 10am−6pm (and 10am−9pm on Thursdays), year-round.
- Education programmes: 9.30am or later, Monday – Friday during term time. Duration: 60 minutes, unless stated otherwise.
- Self-guided visits: 10am or later, Monday – Friday during term time.
Early childhood groups: At least one adult to every four children (one to every two children in Bush City)
Primary students: At least one adult to every six students
Secondary students: At least one adult to every 20 students
There are sunny spots outside the museum where groups can eat lunch.
Lunches at Te Papa Cafe must be booked at least two weeks ahead of time.

You’ll find us right on the waterfront in central Wellington (55 Cable Street) – within easy walking distance of the main shopping areas.
Duration: One hour
Ahead of your visit, book an orientation tour to preview the museum and plan your programme. Tell us about your learning intentions and we’ll suggest the most suitable education programmes and exhibitions.
We apply no minimum/maximum limit for the number of teachers in your orientation group.
