On behalf of the Te Papa board, Dame Fran Wilde, Board Chair, invites governance and committee representatives from cultural institutions from across the motu to Wellington for a day of connection and learning.
The past 18 months have been an extraordinary time for the leaders and governance of cultural institutions in Aotearoa. This November, the Te Papa Board invites you to join us in Wellington for a special free one-day hui designed to bring together governance and committee representatives from museums, galleries and whare taonga (big, small and in-between) to reflect on what we have learned, and look together at what the future holds.
We are currently seeking expressions of interest to gauge the appetite and potential attendance for this hui.
The purpose of this hui is to connect and strengthen a national network of museum, gallery and whare taonga governance irrespective of their size.
In this free one-day hui we will prioritise opportunities to:
- Meet and learn from each other
- Hear from experts about the pressing topics in governance today, especially the pandemic recovery
- Explore recurrent issues in the governance of cultural institutions, including the workforce of the future; deaccessioning and repatriation; self-assessment and governance development; Treaty-based governance.
The proposed date for the hui is Thursday 18 November. We are hoping that Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage the Hon. Carmel Sepuloni will join us in the morning.
Please note this date is conveniently adjacent to the National Digital Forum conference, to be held in Wellington on 16 and 17 November.
Capacity for this event is currently capped at 120 people, therefore we ask you to restrict your expression of interest to your chairperson plus one other board or committee member.
National Services Te Paerangi travel subsidy grants are available for organisations who may otherwise struggle to attend the hui.
