Te Papa is one of Wellington’s best places to have fun during school holidays, on rainy days, or on any other day of the year! Under-fives will love StoryPlace, Art Detective Kits are perfect for kids five to eight years old, our Discovery Centres offer something for everyone up to age 12, and Bush City provides adventure and fresh air for young and old alike.

Bush City

Ages: All

Step outside into Bush City – a living, growing exhibition. Take a short walk through some of the natural wonders of New Zealand, from native bush to volcanic landscape.

Here you can:

  • cross a swing-bridge
  • enter a glow-worm cave
  • climb a lava flow
  • dig for fossils
  • simply relax in the fresh air.

Discovery Centres

Ages: Up to 12 years. Children must be accompanied by an adult
Cost: Free

Explore, touch, play, ask questions, research, and learn. Pick a room to suit your whānau’s  whānau’s family’sinterests, then get hands-on with educational exhibits, games, and books.

Take a journey through the natural world in NatureSpace, or try your hand at weaving in Te Huka ā Tai. Explore Pacific culture in PlaNet Pasifica, and play shop in the Kiwi corner store at Inspiration Station.
