High Tea and Lace Talk
Join the Friends of Te Papa at their popular annual high tea, and hear a talk on the stunning lace exhibited at Splendour.

Enjoy a glass of bubbly while lace expert Cathrine Lloyd gives her illustrated lecture ‘The Significance of Lace in French Sartorial Culture from the 17th Century to Contemporary Haute Couture’. She shows how lace offers a unique insight into the history of French culture.
Cathrine’s talk is followed by a fabulous afternoon tea prepared by Executive Chef Bernd Lippmann and his team.
Optional extra, 3.30pm–3.55pm: We invite you to view the lace on display in European Splendour 1500–1800 with curator Justine Olsen.
This annual high tea is always a sell-out event. We provide a seating plan – if you are coming with someone else, let us know and we’ll seat you together.
About Cathrine Lloyd
A love of all things French led avid needlework practitioner Cathrine to complete an MA at Victoria University. Her thesis was about the significance of lace and embroidery in France from the time of Louis XIV to contemporary haute couture.
