Rita Angus often mentioned the music she was listening to in her letters, offering us a glimpse of the works that accompanied and inspired her.

This free, daytime concert performed by the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra features a repertoire drawn from Rita Angus’ letters. Immerse yourself in the aural world that surrounded her as she painted. As the orchestra performs in the galleries – you are welcome to sit and listen or wander the exhibition Rita Angus: New Zealand Modernist as they play.

The full repertoire will be announced on this page closer to the event date. This concert will have an interval of 20mins.

This event is part of a week-long series celebrating Rita Angus’ relationship to music. The series also features a new jazz composition by Quentin Angus, and a Thursday evening performance by the NZSO.

Under the Covid-19 protection framework (aka the traffic light system) all visitors to Te Papa will need to be double vaccinated.

See our Covid-19 information page for more information about what to expect when you visit Te Papa.
