Ulufale mai! All welcome!

‘Fakatili te kiloga fou’ is the theme for this year’s Tuvaluan Language week: ‘Navigating the changing environment’.

On Sunday, dress in your best. Learn about fakateagaaga spirituality. Sing hymns and read scripture. Understand how fundamental the role of religion is to Tuvaluan language maintenance and cultural identity in new islands.

On Wednesday join community representatives for fou head garland- and pandanus titi skirt-making workshops. Listen to pulsating fātele dance, featuring pokisi box and kaapa tin drum accompaniment.

Sipi kana! Awesome! Se fuagina! Beyond beautiful!

In response to changing covid alert levels, Te Papa Hosts will manage visitor flow for artist and audience safety. Space may be limited. Thank you for your patience.
