ĀKAU is a design studio and foundation in Kaikohe, dedicated to empowering taitamariki (young people) by engaging them in the design of real projects. Together they have designed a basketball court, a petrol station, typographic murals encouraging the use of te reo Māori
te reo MāoriMāori languageMāori | Noun, and many other community projects in Te Tai Tokerau (Northland).
This papamahi (activity) is part of the public programme for Modern Living: Design in 1950s New Zealand.
