An edit-a-thon is an all-day attempt to improve Wikipedia’s coverage of a particular topic. Join seasoned Wikipedia editors Mike Dickison and Siobhan Leachman for this special edition focusing on endangered plant species.

Complete beginners are welcome! You’ll learn how Wikipedia works and how to improve and create articles. There will be experienced editors present who’ll be buddied up with newcomers. By the end of the day, you’ll be able to edit pages, correct mistakes, add references, and upload photos.

Our goal is to improve the representation of endangered plants in Wikipedia; we’ll focus on plants, but you’re welcome to pursue any project you like. You can improve existing articles, add photos, or create stub articles for plants missing from Wikipedia.

We’ll provide tea and coffee throughout the day. Bring your own brown bag lunch or enjoy lunch from one of the nearby cafes.

Please register for the workshop as space is limited. After registration, we’ll email out details of what to bring and how to sign up for Wikipedia ahead of the workshop.

This public event is part of the 2019 Taxonomy for Plant Conservation – Ruia mai i Rangiātea Conference.
